** Sellers Checklist **

When moving there are many items to prepare for. I have detailed numerous items that will help your move go smoother. I have broken them down into general items for any move & items that need to also be considered in a long distance move! Please review all items and add any special ones that will help you in your move!

Notify your mortgagee immediately in writing that your house has been sold and you will pay off the mortgage loan.
Give your deed and copy of any restrictions to your real estate agent.
If your home will be vacant! Notify police,cancel services & arrange for lawn care.
Develop a master "To Do" list. Set up calendar with key dates of when tasks are to be done.
Decide what to take and what you want to store or sell at a garage sale.
Recycle unneeded belongings by donating to charity of choice. Keep receipts for tax write-off.
Get estimates from moving companies & storage facilities.
Arrange for transfer of utilities. Inform utilities co. where to send final bill.
Notify fuel dealer and obtain oil reading. Give to realtor or closing attorney for reimbursement.
Notify your children's school about the move. Get letter regarding their status to give to new school.
Update all financial accounts. (checking,savings,retirement,investment,installment purchase accounts).
Check with attorney about status of your will and update him on where to reach you.
Go to www.USPS.com. Update mailing address and get forwarding address cards from post office. Most can be done online!
Cancel or transfer phone, lawn service, trash pickup, newspaper and all home services.
Use up supplies that are not transportable. A month before the move, use up cleaning supplies and eat your way through the freezer items.
Draw up a floor plan for furniture placement at new location. Give to movers
Put different colored stickers on boxes sorted by room in your new home. Then place a matching colored balloon or piece of paper on the door of the appropriate room.
Remove all personal items from home.
Have home "broom swept" or professionally cleaned.
After settlement, deposit proceeds from sale and cancel Homeowners insurance on old home.

If long distance move, also consider:

Get all medical records including immunizations, prescriptions, dental x-rays, eyeglass prescriptions, etc.
Notify your place of worship that you are leaving.
Pay existing bills and close out local charge accounts.
Have your bank arrange credit references to establish new accounts in new location.
Gather valuables you want to personally take with you (birth certificates,deeds,documents). Have art and antiques appraised.
Retrieve personal items at photo shop, bank safe deposit box, neighbor's house, on lay-away or in a repair shop.
Arrange sufficient cash/traveler's checks for moving services and travel.
Make arrangements for transporting pets and plants.
Plan travel itinerary and make reservations.
Organize moving documents and place in a portable file box to take with you. Keep important papers together. i.e.(moving registration number, driver's name and vehicle number, name and phone number of moving company at the point of destination, personal address book)
Pack an arrival kit of necessities to take with you in case you arrive there before the moving van. Include light bulbs, linens, paper products, garbage bags, soap, and tools.
Service the car for the trip, get haircut, prescriptions filled. This eases the pressure of finding services right away.
Save the phone book from your former city for future use.
